Coach Jake, born in Ohio and raised in Beaufort, SC, brings a wealth of experience and passion to Reverence Wrestling Club. Coach Jake’s wrestling career began in his sophomore year of high school, and in just three years, he achieved remarkable success. Within his first month on the mat, Coach Jake secured the varsity spot by defeating a seasoned senior wrestler with four years of experience. His natural talent and dedication led him to qualify for the state tournament twice, where he placed 3rd and 4th. Coach Jake dominated in district competitions, becoming a district champion all three years and a regional runner-up each year as well. He concluded his high school career with over 100 victories, setting records along the way. One of his proudest accomplishments is breaking a Beaufort High School record for the fastest pin, which was initially set at 8 seconds in 1992, he broke that record in 2012 with a 7 second pin, and then shattering his own record two years later in 2014 with a 6-second pin.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Coach Jake served as an 0311 infantryman, where he had the unique opportunity to deploy to Jordan and train the Jordanian Army. Coach Jake also earned a brown belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP). His commitment to excellence extended beyond his military service and trained in MMA with professional fighters who competed in Bellator from across the country.
Outside of wrestling, Coach Jake’s dedication to his family is just as strong. He is a proud father of two sons who also wrestle at Reverence, and he is deeply committed to their success in the sport. His wife of over nine years, Angel, stands by his side, supporting his passion for coaching and continuous growth. Coach Jake’s love for wrestling extends beyond the mat, as he continues to study, research, and refine his techniques, ensuring that the youth he coaches are equipped with not only the skills but also the discipline and mindset that wrestling can offer.
With his unique background in both military service, mixed martial arts, and wrestling, Coach Jake embodies the discipline, strength, and perseverance necessary to mentor the next generation of wrestlers. His goal is to instill a love for the sport in young athletes, and help them achieve greatness both on and off the mat.
