Coach Gerardo grew up in Lake Wales, Florida, where he began wrestling as a freshman at Lake Wales High School. Throughout his four years there, he was a member of the varsity wrestling team. In his senior year, he served as team Captain, became a District Champion, Regional Runner-up, and placed sixth in the state tournament in the 125lb weight class.
In 2008, Coach Gerardo enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 15 years. During his military career, he deployed twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He also held several key leadership and instructor roles, including Motor Transport Chief, Drill Instructor, and Drill Master.
Despite his military commitments, Coach Gerardo’s passion for wrestling remained strong. He continued wrestling with various clubs across the country and eventually began coaching his two sons at Reverence Wrestling Club. He believes in being a lifelong student of the sport and is dedicated to teaching the discipline and resilience that wrestling has instilled in him.
